Cafeteria & Nurse
CAFETERIA
Nutritional meals will be available at Swainsboro Elementary daily. Breakfast will be served each day from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. Any student transported by parents should arrive before 7:45 a.m. if desiring to eat breakfast.
Emanuel County student meals will remain under the USDA CEP pricing option for the 2025-2026 school year. Under CEP, students enrolled in Emanuel County Schools will be served one breakfast and/or one lunch per day at no charge.
- Students who bring lunch from home must pack it in a lunch box. Gum and sodas are not allowed in lunch boxes. We recommend students bring juice or water to drink. Please note that iced coffee, slushies, energy drinks, and similar beverages are not permitted at school.
- All food brought to school must be inside a lunch box—no outside food items are allowed. Additionally, food deliveries (such as from DoorDash) are not permitted for students.
- There will be no microwave available for student use. Please ensure your child brings a lunch that does not require heating.
SCHOOL NUTRITION INFORMATION
If your child needs a special diet due to doctor’s orders, please contact the School Food Services Manager. Please supply her with a signed copy of the health professional’s instructions. The school should have a prescription with a doctor or physician assistant's signature, a diagnosis, and a recommended alternate food. The prescription should be updated annually and can be easily done during well checks for children. We can no longer offer juice and water as an alternative for milk, even when requested by a physician. We will need a written list of the foods your child cannot eat.
WATER BOTTLES
Students may bring clear water bottles to school. Water bottles should only contain water. Stanley cups or metal cups are not acceptable.
Nurse
Children should not return to school until they are free from vomiting, diarrhea, and/or fever, without the use of medication, for at least 24 hours. Regarding fever, a child with a fever (oral temperature of 99.5 degrees or higher with other symptoms of illness present OR temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, regardless of whether other symptoms are present) should stay home until there are 24 hours without having a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine in that 24 hours). The principal should be notified, in writing, if a student has a chronic disability or illness that could require special or emergency treatment.
HEAD LICE PROTOCOL
Suspected cases of head lice require classroom checks by the teacher. Students with live lice are required to go home for treatment and return to be checked by the school nurse before reentering the classroom. Students with nits only; a parent will be contacted and a follow up will be done on the student in two days. Students may return to class with just nits present.
